THE ANTHONY NOLAN TRUST

Given the overwhelming response we have had regarding the bone marrow transplant procedure and your many generous offers to undergo testing for a match for Joe and the thousands of other patients in need, we have posted answers to some of the questions you have asked and a thank you message from the Anthony Nolan Trust
.

What is The Anthony Nolan Trust?
The Anthony Nolan Trust provides lifesaving bone marrow donors for patients in need of a transplant.

Who can become a donor?
To join The Anthony Nolan Trust's register you need to be 18-40 years old and in good health. The Anthony Nolan Trust specifically needs to recruit more young male donors and those from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

What do I need to know before I join the register?
You need to be aware of the important commitment you are making to help any patient in need, you can obtain more information about this on our website
http://www.anthonynolan.org.uk.

How many potential bone marrow donors do you have registered?
Not enough. The Anthony Nolan Trust has a register of more than 350,000 potential bone marrow donors, but we need more people aged 18-40 to join, especially young men.

How do I join the bone marrow register
To find out more about how to join the bone marrow register and what is involved please call The Anthony Nolan Trust on 020 7284 1234 or visit www.anthonynolan.org.uk, or email newdonor@anthonynolan.org.uk.

Why is the upper age limit to join the register 40?
It is a priority for The Anthony Nolan Trust to recruit young donors as research has shown an improved outcome for bone marrow transplants if the donor is younger. In the case of patients with more than one possible match, donors under the age of 40 will be preferred, particularly if they are male.

What if I can't join the register?
If you are not able to join the register there are a number of other ways in which you can help us save lives. You can help by raising awareness of the need for more bone marrow donors amongst the young men you know or you can give a financial donation.

How is The Anthony Nolan Trust funded?
The Anthony Nolan Trust is a registered charity. We are dependent on the public and companies to fund our lifesaving work, as we receive no direct government funding.

How do I find out more?

The Anthony Nolan Trust would like to thank all the people that have responded to Joe's appeal so far, and come forward to join the register.

The Anthony Nolan Trust has a received a fantastic response from fans already, and has heard from many male fans.

The Anthony Nolan has also heard from people who are disappointed as they are above the age limit to join the register. Please don't think you can't help - there are many ways you can help save lives:

You can raise awareness amongst the young men you know and encourage them to join the register;

You could encourage your company to hold a bone marrow donor registration clinic;

You could ring up and donate £5;

You could ask your employer to choose The Anthony Nolan Trust as their charity of the year.
